Team-oriented management: Responsibility and customer focus

From traditional family businesses all the way to international corporations: Central Switzerland is a meeting point for many diverse corporate cultures.

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way!” Caroline Möll, your favourite quotation from John C. Maxwell sets high standards for leadership skills. How do you meet this challenge as head of the Central Switzerland office?

My team is very dynamic, focused, and they work fast. As a young manager, I don't want to be seen as micromanaging from above: my goal is to set a good example. I can only inspire the best from my team if I delegate responsibility to them as well as assigning competences. I would say that we are a real team: every one of us is there for the others – and all of us with a single focus: our customers.

And how would your team describe you?

(Laughs) You would have to ask them about that! A brief anecdote... When it came out that I was transferring to management, one of my installers begged me: “Caro, please don't stop being your own wild self when you get to the upper echelons.” I think that I have kept on being myself. My team would probably call me authentic, inspiring, but also label me a perfectionist.

Work from home, co-working spaces, and more: over the last few years, working styles and conditions have changed considerably. Where do you see these trends taking the office use and office outfitting sector over the next few years?

The buzzword on everyone’s lips at the moment is “new work”. However, I think that in the medium term, the trend for more colourful and ‘cool’ working spaces will level off. The focus will swing back towards stability and durability, combined with open, transparent use of space and attractive collaboration zones. We’ll be achieving this with suitable concepts and designs, and of course with the high-quality, functional furniture provided by Lista Office LO. I do believe, of course, that work from home will – and must! – continue to be an important option.

So you see the return to office bringing with it a return to fixed workstations?

No, I wouldn’t say that, exactly. Every business has its own individual office setup and ambiance, and rightly so. In Central Switzerland, much more than in other regions of Switzerland, we find highly diverse corporate worlds rubbing shoulders. Lucerne is generally more traditional, while Zug has a more international perspective. In Canton Uri, businesses tend to work autonomously. This rich mixture means that it’s essential that we can offer all our customers solutions that match their specific needs.

What do you consider makes a good interior design?

The best interior design is the one tailored to the customer’s needs. In particular in Canton Uri, where the requests are often quite traditional in nature, it’s important to show the customer various options. A good concept will combine both functionality and quality. The colour scheme and “soft” elements such as a collaboration zone or social area are also very important. Good light for working is also absolutely central. For me, it’s the combination of all these elements that makes a great interior design.

And what’s important to you in terms of your customers?

We provide all our customers, whether small or large, with a comprehensive service. We act as a full service provider, with a great portfolio of top brands that pair perfectly with the Lista Office LO products. Indeed, it’s essential that we do this if we are to truly meet the needs of our customers. You can see for yourself in our attractive showroom in Lucerne. We’re always delighted to meet visitors and enjoy talking with them.

Pro tip: Which furnishing element do you think is essential in the office?

I wouldn't point to a specific element, but rather to an overall zone. I think that the social area is crucial. This is a space where people can meet and exchange ideas. For a lot of us, personal contact is perhaps not the sole reason for going into the office, but certainly one of the most important reasons.

Now something about yourself: what makes you unique as a person, Caroline Möll? How do you find your balance?

I have a lot of energy and drive, and I love travelling to new cities and exploring new things. At the weekends, I enjoy the peace by the lake, walking in the countryside with my dog, or just reading a book. At the moment, I have John Strelecky’s “Café on the Edge of the World” on my bedside table. To wind down from a hectic working day, I find calm and relaxation within myself, with my family – particularly my nieces – and with friends.
