Hans Randegger, you have been working in the office furniture industry for many years now. How did you get into this sector?
I got into the office furniture business via a good friend, someone I’ve known since the days when I was just a raw youth. Back then he worked at Sitag and I was in an insurance company. What he told me about his job awoke my interest in a career change, and two years later in 1997, I arrived at Lista in Zurich for my first stint there. Since last August, after spending eighteen years hopping between other companies in the same sector, I’m back where it all began.
How would you sum up your first year as head of a local office?
Since the beginning of the year, we’ve been working very hard with a few of our customers on extensive infrastructure reorganisations. My plans for creativity and developing new ideas and strategies for the office – and even reorganisation of my own workplace! – have had to be put on ice for the moment, due to the very busy period we’ve had on project work. In a nutshell: the traditional one-year summary will have to wait until we’ve got a bit more time and leisure for reflection.
What do you see as special about Lista Office LO?
When we look at what we have across all our locations and facilities, the company has an incredible spectrum of knowledge and skills. We’ve also got over 100 first-class brand partners, and various external specialists that we call on as needed. That means we can put together the perfect team for any project or enquiry, and find the best solutions for our customers.
What sets Zurich apart from the other locations in Switzerland?
Zurich has an energy that no other Swiss city can match. Zurich and its environs are home to large, exciting national and international businesses, and the people we’re working with move at an incredible pace.
Our office location itself also has an impact on how we work, probably more than in other places. We are based in a very attractive showroom, with glass on three sides. Its prominent location in the Talstrasse in Zone 1 means that we get a lot of walk-in customers, something that is unusual for our sector – private individuals as well as corporate customers.
Finally, two questions about your personal life: who is responsible for the interior of your own home, and how would you describe the style?
Mainly my wife. I would call our home interior eclectic, as we live in and with a mixture of furniture from all different brands, eras and materials. I would describe our division of work as follows: I have a feeling for quality; she has the magic touch to unify the elements into a harmonious whole.
Hans Randegger is a keen mountain biker, skier and hiker, and loves to spend an evening lingering over a delicious meal. His top tip for a great hike: Kandersteg to Adelboden via Bunderchrinden. On his bedside table at the moment, he has his book recommendation “Alles in Allem” by Kurt Guggenheim – since he's already read everything by his favourite author, Martin Suter.
